Chainsaw Safety Training

Join us for a 2-day chainsaw safety training course led by a seasoned chainsaw professional.  Over both days, students will be guided through the basics of safe chainsaw operation, maintenance, bucking, PPE requirements, and more!

We are incredibly pleased to be able to offer these courses free of charge to trail volunteers to make them as accessible as possible. Each participant will also be provided their own set of chaps and helmet to use for the duration of the course AND to bring home with them at the end of the weekend! Coffee and lunches are included, and all equipment (including chainsaws, maintenance tools, gas, additional PPE, etc) will also be provided for use during the course – though participants are welcome to bring their own!

What To Expect:

– All equipment (including chainsaws, maintenance tools, gas, PPE, etc.) included, though students are encouraged to bring their own if they have it!

– NEW set of chaps and helmet will be provided to each student for use during the course AND to bring home upon completion of the course.

– Coffee & lunches provided.

– The course will be divided roughly 50/50 between indoor classroom instruction and outdoor hands-on learning.  Please dress for the weather and come prepared to get a little (or a lot) dirty.

– Courses are limited to a maximum of 8 participants.

Trail Building Workshop: May 1st – May 4th 2023

NS Trails is excited to announce that we will be hosting a 4-day trail building workshop in partnership with Brigadoon Village in the Valley from May 1st – May 4th.  Led by the trail building experts and TrailFlow Outdoor Adventures, this interactive workshop will offer trail building skill development for 16 people as we work together to maintain and upgrade existing wilderness trail, and build a brand-new section of trail.  Participants will learn the fundamentals of sustainable trails including trail design basics, routine maintenance tasks, drainage solutions, boardwalk construction, managing risk on trail, rock armouring, and more!  No trail building experience in necessary.  All participants will be shown how to safely use common trail building tools.  A combination of in-class theory and hands-on experiential learning will be used.  Come prepared to have fun, get dirty, and build durable, sustainable trail.

1. This is a 4-day/3-night workshop.  Participants are encouraged to stay overnight onsite.  Overnight accommodations in shared cabins at Brigadoon are provided at no extra cost.

2. Meals and snacks will be provided at no extra cost.

3. Thanks to generous support from Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage, and the great folks at Brigadoon, the full cost of the workshop is $50.00 per person.
