DESCRIPTION:Black Rock Trails Society and the Black Rock/Canada Creek Community invite all our wonderful community members to our annual ‘ Cleanup’ This year we will be cleaning the ditches and highway verges on Black Rock Road. We are registered with the Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up. We’ll be meeting at the Black Rock Rec and Culture Hall (4404 Black Rock Road) at 10:00 am on Saturday May 17. We supply all bags and disposable gloves\, and we’ll pick up everything you collect for proper disposal. We are aiming for a 2 hour event\, but any time you can commit will be greatly appreciated. Lets get our community cleaned up for the summer season! Thanks in advance.

DESCRIPTION:The Bay to Bay Trail Association is pleased to invite you to attend the unveiling of our new wetland interpretive panels. The launch event is on May 31st — at 2 pm at the Marsh on the Bay to Bay Trail. The launch event involves biking\, hiking or riding out to the location of the panels (just north of the Marsh area\, 2.4 km from the Fauxburg Rd Bay to Bay trail parking area). We invite you to make your way to the site on your own for 2 pm\, or if you need a lift out\, meet at the Fauxburg Rd parking lot and catch a ride on one of Shore Cycle and Marine’s ATV “taxis” (please get in touch to reserve a ride ahead of time: info@baytobay.com). The site of the event will be well marked and we will be there to greet you!Project partners Coastal Action\, Knowledge Keeper Shawn Feener\, Designer Kate MacIntosh\, and members of the Bay to Bay wetland committee will make brief presentations after the panels are unveiled.We are very excited to share the new wetland panel installation with you! DESCRIPTION:We invite you to learn with us about Nova Scotia’s Eastern Hemlock trees and a threat they face—the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid (HWA). This insect has the potential to drastically impact our Sackville parks. As of spring 2025\, HEMLOCK WOOLY ADELGID HAS NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED IN OUR COMMUNITY. Join with us on social media as we learn about hemlocks and what the community can do to help protect our hemlock trees. On Sunday\, June 8th at 10:30am we will have a hands-on learning event in the parks with local experts. SUMMARY:Riverside Trail Snowshoe Bioblitz
DESCRIPTION:The Southwest Nova Biosphere and Middleton Recreation are partnering to bring the Snow Shoe Bioblitz to the Riverside Park. This family-friendly event invites community members to learn about biodiversity in Southwestern Nova Scotia using the iNaturalist app.\nWe will meet at the trailhead by the parking lot at 11:00 am on Saturday February 21st. We will explore the trail and photograph as many winter plants as we can see. A prize will be available for the attendee with the highest number of species uploaded to iNaturlist at the end of the walk. This data will be incorporated into the “Best Buds Bioblitz” on iNaturalist. For more information on the bioblitz\, check out the beginners’ guide on our Facebook page.\nMiddleton recreation offers free equipment rentals including cross country skis\, walking poles\, and snow shoes. Attendees are encouraged to reach out to mpal@town.middleton.ns.ca to reserve snow shoes for Saturday morning.\nMiddleton’s “more green time\, less screen time” initiative wants to see community members enjoying the great outdoors. Let’s use our screens to get outside and enjoy nature by learning plant identification with the iNaturalist app. To participate\, you should have the app downloaded before you arrive. Make sure to dress warm and have your equipment ready for 11:00 am.\nIf the weather makes the trail unsafe for the walk\, we will reschedule for 11:00 am on Sunday\, February 22nd. If there is insufficient snow\, we will enjoy a regular walk.
