SUMMARY:Art Show - Katrina Eyking
DESCRIPTION:We are honored to host this upcoming Art Show by Katrina Eyking. You do not want to miss this!\nMarch 30th 2-5pm\nCoxheath Hills Community Centre \n1580 Coxheath Road\nFree Entry\, donations at the door\nRefreshments available\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Saturday from 2-5 we are hosting a very exciting Art Show with up and coming artist Katrina Eyking.\nHer work is very fascinating and mythical and she has thoughtfully put together a curated collection of her works to display.\n\n\nThere will be wonderful live music and refreshments available. Entry is free and donations are welcome at the door.\nAll proceeds go toward Coxheath Community Centre toward building and trail maintenance and future events like these!\n\n\nLooking forward to seeing you there!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFOLKTAILS\nThe mythical Japanese nine-tailed fox\, (狐\, Kitsune\, きつね)\, depicts many tails emerging from a single being. A kitsune begins her journey as an ordinary red fox (V. vulpes) gaining each tail every 100 years. The nine-tailed fox is said to be over 900 years old\, gaining an abundance of power and wisdom through experience over time. Although she is able to shapeshift into human form\, she typically chooses to reject societal norms\, retaining her wild\, untamable nature.\nOur folktales also hold a power and wisdom that transcends generations. Since the dawn of humanity\, and continuing on to this day\, folktales share cultural perspectives and experiences. Although time and distance separate these cultures\, they connect by an invisible thread of the universal human experience.\n“FolkTAILS” merges both folktales and kitsune. The varying cultural wisdoms (tails) emerge from a single being (humanity/ H.sapians). My visual expressions unite the spiritual and the scientific\, bringing the magical into the mundane. Each piece was created with childlike curiosity and candor\, allowing for a space to freely make mistakes\, and to expand on my own experiences often in unpredictable ways.\nFolkTAILS exhibit is my humble story of the journey\, and of evolution of the self.\n– Katrina Eyking

SUMMARY:Volunteer Trail Work Day
DESCRIPTION:We’re planning work days for this weekend (Saturday April 27) and next (Saturday May 4).\nThis weekend (April 27) we’ll work from 10:00am-12:30pm and do preparation work for next weekend. There are some downed trees that need to be cleared as well as a few other tasks on the front loop that can be done in preparation for new crusher dust – drainage\, pipe installation\, improvements to boardwalk ramps\, etc.\nOn May 4 (rain or shine!) we’re going to put fresh crusher dust down on the front part of the trail system and could use lots of volunteers to help move and rake crusher dust. We will have equipment to help move it\, but may do some manual moving with carts\, and will need lots of volunteers to spread the material. \n❤️

SUMMARY:Bowater Trail-O
DESCRIPTION:An 8 hour orienteering trail ‘O’!?! \nThat’s right! Come on out and try a different kind of trail running race! This is a bigger course\, so we’ll require everyone to have at least 1 teammate this time around (must be within earshot of your teammate at all times during the event). \nRegistration: https://raceroster.com/events/2024/84946/bowater-trail-o \nThis is a fundraiser for our local food bank with 50% of the entry fee going to them! Let’s give them a helping hand! \nA “Trail-O” (Trail Orienteering) can be described as: \nan event that requires beginner-level navigation skills\, but unlike most other forms of orienteering\, it involves little\, or no\, route choice. It is conducted primarily on trails\, logging roads\, etc versus the typical on and off trail nature of an orienteering event. \nThis year\, the entire course is a ~35km loop\, but it has a few more options for route choices. Can you do the whole loop in 8 hours? Maybe\, but maybe not…so plan accordingly. It’s 100% fine and dandy to plan for a few controls and call it a day as there is no obligation to complete the course! \nIf you do bite off the entire loop\, you’ll have to do 2 bushwhacks that are in the 500m to 800m range each. The route choice is totally up to you and you’ll get your map as soon as you’re checked-in on race day (hint hint: be there early to have more time to plan 🙂 \nAround the loop\, there will be orange/white orienteering flags (AKA: controls) hanging at various intersections\, off-trail and out of sight\, so you’ll have to wander 10-20 metres (or more) into the woods to find them. Each control has a unique ‘hole punch’ hanging from them\, which you use to punch your provided ‘punch card’ (example: if you’re at control/checkpoint #251\, you punch box 251 on your card). \nThe control locations will be circled on your provided map\, along with directions for their exact location from the intersections (example directions: 20m at 90 degrees from the intersection circled on the map). \nOn the map\, the loop will be fairly obvious\, but the loop is not marked with anything but the hidden orienteering controls. \nMap and compass skills are very handy to have in your back pocket as a trail runner\, so come on out and see what it’s all about. GPS is allowed\, but it’s not in the spirit of the event to use it for navigation (unless it’s an emergency of course). \nTime limit: 8 hours. \nScoring: 10 points per control. For every minute you are late\, you lose 10 points. \nMandatory gear: fully charged phone\, compass\, matches/lighter\, knife\, small 1st aid kit\, jacket\, buff/toque\, food and drink. \nThe start/finish location will be emailed out to everyone a few days before the event\, but it won’t be any more than 20 minutes away from last year’s start/finish area (but could be a lot less too 😉 It’s not the location listed on this page\, I can assure you of that 🙂 \nPlease note: No refunds or deferrals\, but you can sell your spot to someone if you can’t make it.
